Mr Gordon Tang
Artist Gordon Tang is a retired professionally licensed electrical engineer and self-taught woodturner. After a successful engineering career, Gordon turned to his passion for woodturning as a second vocation during retirement.
With his engineering background for accuracy, detail and precision, coupled with his deep appreciation of the rich beauty of Hawaii’s timber, Gordon designs his wood-turned shapes to optimize the dynamic between balance and form. His pieces are all hand sanded and finishes are done in natural mineral oil to enhance the inherent beauty and grain of the timber.
Gordon's work is regularly featured at Nohea Galleries and The Contemporary Museum of Honolulu. His pieces are also presented annually at the Punahou Carnival.
Gordon is a member of the National American Association of Woodturners (AAW), and is active in and a past president of the Honolulu Woodturner’s Club, a local chapter of the AAW.
